Advanced Examination Technology

The advanced examination technologies available at our clinics include:

  • Optomap Retinal Scan
We offer Optomap retinal scan in our clinics as a part of our comprehensive eye exams. This technology provides us with a single panoramic image of 80% of your eyes, which makes it easier for our doctors to detect any vision problems or life-threatening diseases early. It is a fast and painless procedure that doesn’t require pupil dilation and is suitable for your entire family.

    How It Works
Getting an Optomap retinal scan is a fairly simple process. All you have to do is look into the device one eye at a time. You will see a comfortable flash of light indicating that the image of your retina has been taken. Your eye’s blood vessels are visible through your retina. When we get a clear picture of your retina, we can detect diseases you may have, such as heart disease, stroke, hypertension, diabetes or cancer. This will help us take precautions before they start affecting your eyes and overall health.
  • SITA Humphrey Field Analyzer
Humphrey visual fields. You can have 20/20 vision and still have a vision problem. This instrument allows our doctors to assess an important part of your vision that cannot be assessed any other way. This machine measures your peripheral or side vision. Your peripheral vision is very important in our daily functioning. For example, when you are driving, you use your peripheral vision to detect other cars or pedestrians. You use your peripheral vision to ensure you don't bump into a door way or trip over the curb when you are walking down the street. Many eye diseases such as glaucoma or retinal dystrophies will cause problems with your peripheral (or side vision). The same can be true with certain brain diseases such as stroke. We use this machine regularly as we provide eyecare to our patients.

  • Zeiss Cirrus HD OCT
Zeiss Optical Coherence Tomography is an advanced eyecare instrument that is used to take 3 dimensional images of the retina and optic nerve. An OCT image will image the retina down to the rods and cones layers of the retina. It is very useful in diseases such as glaucoma, diabetes and macular degeneration. If someone comes into our office with complaints of vision loss, the OCT instrument can assist in determining the cause of the vision loss.

  • Zeiss Forum
Zeiss Forum is an advanced glaucoma analysis program that combines Zeiss OCT glaucoma images and Zeiss SITA visual fields. When you have glaucoma, your optic nerve becomes damaged and you start losing your visual field. Combining these tests into one report allows our optometrists to check for glaucoma nerve damage in a powerful way.
